Is Dream Vacations A Scam or Legit Opportunity to Make Money as a Travel Agent?

is dream vacations a scam

When talking about Dream Vacations, there are two different aspects of the company. There is a business side in which you can become a travel agent and make money from home.  Then there are perks for being a member and benefitting exclusively from there vacation packages.  This review will provide content primarily geared to their business aspect and a quick review of the perks for planning your next getaway with Dream Vacations.

Dream Vacations Franchise

To start off I must say that Dream Vacations is not a scam, but it is a really expensive business opportunity.  Most businesses that are mentioned as being scams are Multi-Level Marketing companies where you have to encourage other people to join and promote the same product in order for you to make money.  There is no pyramid model with this business as their opportunity allows you to become a legitimate travel agent.

The Dream Vacations Franchise travel agency business allows its members to work from home.  Their main site is not transparent on when the company launched, but its parent company “World Travel Holdings” has been in operation since 2005.  Brad and Jeff Tolkin are the founders and they have more than 30 years of experience as an operating executive in the travel industry. Prior to co-founding World Travel Holdings in 2005, the Tolkins owned and operated Travel Impressions, one of the country’s most successful privately held travel wholesalers.

Dream Vacations Franchise presents itself as a home-based opportunity to make money online.

The truth of the matter is that there are better ways to make money online. The travel industry is not what it used to be and having a travel agent to book a vacation is not a necessity. If you are interested in Dream Vacations due to their business opportunity, I would recommend clicking on the link below to find your preference and a better way of establishing an income stream.

Dream Vacations promises marketing training tools and support to anyone who joins.   In becoming a member they claim to have  “AWARD-WINNING MARKETING, WORK-FROM-ANYWHERE TECHNOLOGY  and the BEST SUPPORT IN THE INDUSTRY”.  Well when we get into how much it costs to join, they better have the best support and marketing tools to help individuals succeed.

Start-Up Cost

The initial franchise fee for their home-based travel franchise is $9,800 with financing available for those who qualify. People interested in joining must put $3,500 down to try their luck with this business opportunity.

Dream Vacations claims that franchise owners will receive 100% of the travel industry’s highest-paid commissions and that no other travel professional will receive a higher-paid commission.  With such a high cost to join I would hope so.  Membership includes:

  • Franchise license
  • Seller of travel license for required states
  • Ownership of clients and database
  • 6-day initial training at our world headquarters
  • Ongoing and continuous education available 24/7 on-demand and via live webinars or in-person conferences

  • Affiliation with World Travel Holdings, providing you buying power, preferred pricing in the marketplace, and 100% of the industry’s highest-paid commissions which are paid weekly
  • CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) membership
  • Ability to grow your business with unlimited associates

Final Thoughts On Dream Vacations Franchise

Anything that costs $3,500 to join must draw a look three times…maybe four.  Even if you have the money to gamble away, Why Would You?  Its good that they have a lead generation that can help you get sales, but to what extent will these leads draw a substantial income?

Dream Vacations travel agents face greater problems in the travel industry. This isn’t really solely based on Dream Vacations, but it’s a problem that most travel agents face today. The fact of the matter is that most people book travel on their own now. There are so many great travel websites out there now that travel agents are not a necessity to book travel.

Although the potential to make money is there with Dream Vacations, the likelihood of doing so will really depend on your experience in marketing. Investing in any type of business requires research, knowledge, development, commitment, a fitting personality, and expending a lot of time and effort in a competitive market place. Merely purchasing a business or franchise opportunity does not guarantee success. One needs to first be honest with themselves . . . is ‘this’ really a good fit for my background, knowledge, and skills, and am I ready to commit the required time and effort to nurture and grow a successful business? 1. Nice article. I agree with you that the price of entry is pretty steep. I owned a travel agency for about 10 years and really enjoyed. I sold it about 12 years ago but it still is alive and kicking today. This opportunity would likely be tough to make a full time living doing. I think there are better ways to invest that type of money that will have far better returns.

    • I have the same kind of experience in working for a travel mlm company. The cost to start up is definitely to high for my liking and I must agree there are better ways to invest in yourself.

  2. I totally agree about the challenges that someone starting this business would face. I don’t extensively travel, but have taken several trips over the last few years. Each one was booked myself online after looking at everything that was available. It took time and research to find arrangements that fit within our budget, but it was worth it.

I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who may use this service, but I wouldn’t want to gamble that kind of money to find out!

    • I don’t blame you for not wanting to gamble such money for this business opportunity. I lost in the past with a similar program but it would have been more of a substantial lost if I had joined Dream Vacations in the past.

      • What was the “similar program” if I might ask? I am looking at both Dream Vacation and Global Travel. In the past I successfully rented out timeshare vacations until they put a stop to it. I have a large database of $5,000 plus previous customers and want to make use of it.

  3. Boy oh boy is that a lot of money for start up. To me that is such a huge gamble. And if I had that much to just “throw away” I could certainly find a better way for sure. I have a travel blog, and hey I would love to find something like this, just not for $3500!

    • There are definitely better ways to invest in yourself and clubs to join for discounted packages on vacations. I have plenty more reviews on similar companies for you to check out if you go to the fly free academy part on the menu.

  4. We bought a dream vacation RCI package and paid our yearly fee. I was ill a few years and could not use it. This year we went to use it and could not go anywhere until we went to this mexican place first. It is a scam. I think the sales peple were all from a New Jersey scam artist group. We are out $4000+ money when we need it the most! Looking into suing them.

    • I am sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately most people that join will not be successful and those failures is what keeps them able to pay the people on top without going bankrupt

    • I’m pretty sure RCI and Dream Vacations are not under the same umbrella company and have nothing to do with each other. I was scammed by RCI and did not continue with them.

  5. It True more and more people shop online for the best price for travel not needing a travel agent I know I do. I think it is a lot of money for and industry that will be very hard to make money.

  6. According to Dream Vacation Travel Company I have won a holiday with them too the Maldives. I entered the competition on Facebook. They want to know my address a picture of me with the front and back of my passport a selfie with me holding travel insurance for identification. They would then send me a letter with details on and saying it has been paid for by their sponsors. Is this genuine????

    • As with anything like this, you will want to look up the company’s phone number on the internet and call them. Do not use the phone number given to you in the email… unless of course it happens to be the official number you found on the internet.

  7. Please know that Dream Vacations which is associated with World Travel Holdings is not the same as Dream Vacation Travel. Very similar names but Dream Vacations is a respected, legitimate company.

  8. Unfortunately, the preceding communication string is confusing three (3) different enities . . . DreamVacations (A CruiseOne Company; WTH), Dream Vacation Club and Dream Vacation Travel Company.

DreamVacations (CruiseOne; WTH) is a legitimate and proven organization with over 1300 franchise owners with very strong corporate support and travel industry connections; I’ve been a franchise owner since 2006.

I’m vaguely familiar with the other two ‘red flag’ enities; do your homework – ‘if it sounds too good to be true, ~’.

Investing in any type of business requires research, knowledge, development, commitment, a fitting personality and expending a lot of time and effort in a competitive market place. Merely purchasing a business or franchise opportunity does not guarantee success. One needs to first be honest with themselves . . . is ‘this’ really a good fit for my background, knowledge and skills, and am I ready to commit the required time and effort to nurture and grow a successful business?

To the ‘travel deal’ purchasers . . . do your homework, ask family and friends for references, find an experienced and knowledgeable travel agent with whom you feel comfortable. Please visit http://www.dreamvacations.com and ‘find an agent’. . . by state, city and agency (franchise) . . . and interview and find your new ‘comfortx travel agent.

  9. Don’t be fooled, do your research, this is an excellent work at home opportunity! The franchise cost alone is cheaper than running any business from a store front, rent for a year will cost you more than the franchise fee.

On top of that, the travel industry is a trillion dollar industry, where the average travel agent makes $30,000 a year, that’s on the low end. There are several travel agencies you should look into, but the one that offers the highest commissions is Cruise Planners – https://www.cruiseplanners.com, it is not an MLM or Biz OP.

  10. Sounds nice but $3500 is a lot and that’s just the tip of it if you read the whole cost.
I’m a travel agent already with a diff company for 6 years and paid $50 with all the same incentives/inclusions as this one. With the struggle with others, I cannot see paying that and confused with all the other side company names too.
Thank you, was a good read
